It’s not that the game ends suddenly or ambiguously – though both of those things are true – but more that I was really starting to enjoy it and was ready to play at least a few hours more. His consciousness abandons his mortal human body and is placed into one that can survive in the strange, alien world he had entered. Synopsis It doesn't ruin the plot, but it makes some moments of high drama funnier than the game seemingly intended. Conarium’s writing successfully mimics the stilted, bombastic style of Lovecraft, but its voice acting less effective. No denoument or conclusion really, just abrupt endings in both cases. That quote embodies Lovecraft’s approach to his own fiction, and it helps explain two things: first, why his work has remained such an ingrained part of pop culture even now, nearly a century since he started writing; and second, why his work has been so remarkably difficult to translate to more visual narrative mediums like film and video games. I'm guessing one of the "lizard men," though I'm trying to figure out where in the Mythos these creatures are referenced. These may seem like pretty cliché storytelling methods for a video game at this point, but I enjoyed the story being told. These bits essentially play out as chase sequences, where you need to bolt through the labyrinthine passageways, dodging dogged pursuers. As you explore Upuaut base and the depths beneath it, you’ll occasionally stumble across letters, diary entries, audio recordings or even flashbacks in the form of strange visions. Gilman can’t run for long, however, and I often had to die and retry these segments multiple times just working out the perfect path. I blazed through the full game in about four hours, and it ended just as it felt like events were starting to pick up. It would surprise me if there were more - I can't see anything else to do on the final map, and information does not seem to be transferred between the maps (inventories get reset, etc. Gilman’s lines are delivered awkwardly and with a bizarre, not-quite-identifiable accent. But I finished Conarium wishing it would have pushed a little deeper, a little further and with a little more quality, even as the most solid attempt at bringing Lovecraft to video games done so far.
I won’t spoil the exact nature of this game’s interpretation of the beasts living in this cavern, but if you’ve read At the Mountains of Madness, you probably have a good idea.

Zoetrope Interactive's Conarium takes its inspiration from H.P. | Conarium was reviewed using a pre-release final Steam key provided by Iceberg Interactive. And while this effort inevitably shares many of the weaknesses of other Lovecraft adaptations, it does an admirable job with its limited tools.

I'm curious about the "Deep One" ending since this is supposed to be a story about the Elder Things and based on the Mountains of Madness and the Cthulhu Mythos. The First ending could be as Wicked Angel said, but there could also be the possibility that the conarium device you're wearing, which is sending your conciousness all over the place in the last quarter of the game, just "resets" your conciousness and sends you back, essentially creating an infinite time loop. No matter how horrifying the developer’s visualization might be, it could never quite match up to my imagination. Plot Keywords
I think those are receptacles similar to the body you get transferred into after entering the ancient conarium. This is another way in which Conarium stays profoundly true to the works of Lovecraft, a writer whose best stories were rarely more than 15 or 20 pages long. At a few moments throughout Conarium, I found myself up against a supernatural force that would kill me if I touched it. Lovecraft's novella At the Mountains of Madness, but largely set after the original story. How do you interpret that to a screen, to a form where people inevitably will see it for themselves? You could slot this game comfortably into the “walking simulator” category, though there are a handful of puzzles to solve, some light adventure game-style inventory management and a couple of sequences where you’re actually at risk of dying. Seeing those creatures ripped from your imagination and put into a virtual world is almost invariably a letdown, however. My understanding of the second ending is that you project your consciousness out of your dying human body via the Ancient Conarium into a similar device on another world, into an alien body suited for that environment. In theory, getting 100% completion could unlock another ending, but I doubt it. Any way to change the FOV.
Of these more interactive bits, the puzzles are the most interesting and satisfying.
Remember the monsters chasing you after being 'released' by that spectre? I'm familiar with the Serpent People from the Mythos, though they primarily worshipped Yig. It's possible a few may have served the Elder Things. Just finished the game, so I'll provide my take on the ending. It's just too short, there's no time for what happens to really sink it and then the end credits start. What I've seen of the D'Versahe ending has the same issue - you wake up earlier in time and that's it. The game ends with you losing your humanity, and gaining a body whose senses can comprehend and experience the incredible sight before it. These faster-paced moments are also where Conarium is arguably the most out-of-step with Lovecraft proper, if only in one respect: You get to see the horrific creatures for yourselves.
