I'm normally a big fan of Mark Twain's travelogues, but "Following the Equator" is my least favorite so far. Their travels occur in the late eighteen hundreds and they traveled by various means of transportation. .

Yet, there's more to Australia than sport, like the quartz mining in Ballarat, and the people. From Bombay to Calcutta, and in between, Twain learns of various traditions, like burial practices. Many of the things described were new to his readers at the time but today they are a bit old hat. The reader will enjoy reading this book.
