Belonging to the Eagle Moiety of the Kaagwaantaan Clan, Tommy Joseph works primarily with wood, producing objects such as totem poles, warrior helmets, and bentwood boxes. He began to compose around this time, writing pieces for pop bands.
The resulting exhibition featured Joseph’s Eagle and Wolf sketches, which provided the basis for the repeat pattern of the fabric, as well as an array of wood helmets he carved and painted in the fashion of ancient Tlingit warrior armor. Joseph was invited to participate in three orchestral workshops organised by 2MBS-FM, in 1988, 1990 and 1992, and was also a participant at the 1992 National Orchestral Composers' School with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in Brisbane.
