It’s a complete thrill from front to back that manages to retain the band’s whacky nature while making some inspiring progressions forward. At the heart of their sound is frontman and chief songwriter Stefan Babcock, whose frenetic ranting somehow manages to convey desperate outrage and friendliness in equal measure. So angry yet PUP clearly put a whole lot of thought into it. It never drops in quality and has the best hooks I’ve heard in quite a while with some interesting lyrics and storytelling and kickass guitars.
Morbid Stuff is 37 minutes inside a sweaty venue process your worst feelings when a half-assed meltdown just won’t cut it. I first heard this album last year way after it came out. PUP has definitely grown as a band, as can be noted by the song structure of "Scorpion Hill," which I thoroughly enjoy. As its title suggests, Morbid Stuff is an album rife with themes of depression, chaos, heartbreak, and general morbidity, but in typical PUP fashion, this sense of bleakness is transmuted into heroic blasts of power, humor, and some of the catchiest songs they've ever written. They've matured from playing to empty bars or 8 people at a late afternoon Warped Tour set, but their energy and spirit hasn't left their DIY home. Furiously energetic hardcore pop punk with cutting lyrics. Fav tracks: "Morbid Stuff", "Kids", "See You at Your Funeral", "Scorpion Hill", "Closure", "Sibling Rivalry", "Full Blown Meltdown". A cathartic listen even if the particular problems presented here aren't anything like your own.
Full Blown Meltdown 10. "Morbid stuff" is the third studio album by pop punk band PUP. Emitting the confessionalism of emo, the big sugary hooks of pop-punk, and the unchecked raw energy of classic hardcore, Morbid Stuff is also laced with plenty of nifty little rhythmic intervals that add even more weird flair to its mix. I usually kinda forget about this album, but then I come back to it once in a while and listen to it once just to rediscover how nice it is, then forget it again for some time. Even the more straightforward bitter break-up songs like “See You at Your Funeral” and “Closure” have a self-awareness to them to offset the vitriol. PUP continues their seemingly unending hot-streak with a slightly more abrasive brand of pop punk on their new album "Morbid Stuff".
At the album's vanguard are the excellent title track and the equally engaging lead single, "Kids," two standout cuts that deliver the best of what PUP have to offer. Scorpion Hill is the best thing they've written. PUP continues to grow and flourish as a punk band with easily their best album yet. The production is strong and it's very fun, I can see myself enjoying these songs in a bar without having any shame! I loved it from the start and it only got better with each re-listen. PUP have never been a band that I'm familiar with nor have had a lot if interest in, however I wanted to see what they could bring since I've heard almost everybody say that this is their best effort yet. Even though it opens with a loud bang on a perfect pop punk sequence from the title track to "See You at Your Funeral", it loses steam as soon as we reach midway. energetic, melodic, male vocals, passionate, anthemic, summer, sarcastic, playful, introspective, anxious, bittersweet, rebellious, angry. Morbid Stuff is a bold step forward for PUP, an incredibly mature record given how filled with anger and contempt it is, containing true moments of insight. To rate, slide your finger across the stars from left to right. It seems the same of this Pup (3) - Morbid Stuff but not include the newspaper and blank cover. They may be using Morbid Stuff to face their demons head on, but there’s a sense of reckless abandon to the whole thing that makes it entirely freeing. While I was expecting this to have more cutting edge tracks, I must admit that the wheel is really good and well when the wheel is good enough why should you improve it?

Anyway, this is very solid and I'm happy I gave it a chance.
