As of now, I have come to narrow it down between 2 phones: Google and Samsung. The camera bump on the Ultra is insane, like unbelievable.
Yeah the pixel is not really a phone but an appliance. I go the other direction; all-around still shots ends up being more important to me, probably because I take more stills than video. Between more vivid shots and a deeper photographic toolbox, it's fair to say the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has a better camera than the Google Pixel 4. I'd pick pixel with one camera over multiple for quality.
Samsung's are on a par with Apple and the device feels premium. Samsung Galaxy S20+ vs Pixel 4 vs iPhone 11 Pro – Camera Comparison, 8K Video Sample & 30X Zoom. The camera system was also not what Samsung said it was. You can use an S20 almost exactly how you would use a Pixel if you want to, but you can't do the opposite due. What I would like to know is which one would be better for someone coming from an Apple phone, switching over to android. IMO, Pixels have better software & vendor support, Samsungs have better hardware. Google offers some really nice software features like whats playing, call screening (if you're in the US and if you get lots of telemarketers/spam calls), and has nice integration of their services into the OS - things like showing your next appointment/flight/hotel details on the homescreen widget by default.
Battery life - Samsung by a country mile. And next on the list is processing. Most of the time all 3 are on par with minor differences that can be made up for with 10 seconds in editing. Plus, should you need them, Google's customer support and service are the worst. Pixels take marginally better photos, with less face smoothing.
Samsung's aren't perfect, but they ARE better. Having said that sometimes Pixel 4 seems to under-saturate colour a bit. So I always tend toward pixels. Sometimes I kinda prefer more natural colours. Not just video quality but also sound during video recording is really bad. The 4 xl is a much better value at $600 new.
Battery life is a must for me, with my current phone, I have to charge it daily and carry my charger with me everywhere I go.
It's all about what the software can do to make your life better. I don't mind Samsung's oversharpening too much on regular photos (although they should tone it down a bit), but especially at high zoom levels (30 and above) the viewfinder image looks cleaner and has a lot more detail than the final picture.
Camera quality on the order is insane.
I prefer the Pixels because for my usage, they fit the profile best. You get amazing specs, a 90Hz display which is still great compared to the 120hz on the s20 series, better camera, more updates with stock android and with some tweaks, just as good battery.
People are so used to shitting on pixel video quality. I had an Ultra and it is not worth the money. I went from a Galaxy S10 to a Pixel 3, and I missed the samsung. The pixel 4 1080p video quality is actually top notch.
No ultrawide is a deal breaker for me.

I really really want to go back to Samsung, I had the S10 plus and that battery life is so great but their cameras just can't handle people very well. The only major difference is gaming performance and a battery hit. But if battery life is important to you, be careful which Pixel you pick. No significant difference between previous Samsung phones of mine.
Samsung of course will have loads and loads of features. More posts from the GooglePixel community. The Exynos is worse than the Snapdragon. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Also, you can buy a phone from any company and get a dud. For that price difference, whatever the s20 series might offer over the 4xl just isn’t worth it at all. Samsung will be a rougher transition I believe having used both Samsungs and Pixels/Nexuses for years. Scenery looks amazing but group photos are always blurry.
This is a fanboy-heavy sub and won't be objective.
An example is screen recording or scrolling screenshots - Samsung have had both of them for literally years, and Pixels are only just going to get them at the end of this year with Android 11. Samsung flagships are still a top 3 phone for photo quality, and often can take the better shot than pixels and iphones. I go back and forth between galaxies and pixels and I always wish pixels had the video recording that galaxies do (and vice versa when I'm on a galaxy, I wish the stock camera for stills was more like google camera). I find the difference in video quality is much larger than the difference in photo quality though.
Hey guys i need some suggestions, I'm looking for a smaller phone, i bought s10 lite new for $360 it was good but too big, then i bought 5g exynos s20 for $520 new I loved it alot but i was afraid of the exynos and battery sold it for $550, now what i should get ? Absolutely love my S20 Ultra camera. Samsung on the other hand have literally dozens of features that the Pixels don't have and likely won't have for years. Log in sign up. Much better battery life w/Samsung. I never really thought how much I'd like ultrawide and zoom shots. I record videos all the time on my 4xl and it looms great. I couldn't live with the Pixel 3 so I'm now on an iPhone 11 Pro and likely won't go back to a Pixel until they really open up the customisation and features. My wife has an iPhone 11 pro and the photos from that are good. If battery life is primary, go with the Samsung. Samsung has bad motion and exposure. And no, I don't own the phone.
Video isn't terrible on pixel but it is worse. But have watched dozens of samples on YouTube.
The (un)official home of #teampixel and the #madebygoogle lineup on Reddit. But just think about what you'll actually use. I hope they fix that soon! My work pays for my phone so I switch often. For me Pixel is disqualified with its lack of ultrawide.
I've not noticed the autofocus issue but I've not been looking for it either !
We're nearly 20,000+ people, and we've been here since 2012. 14. Samsung. I have had my Apple 6s plus since it’s been out and I have decided that I was due for an upgrade, but this time android wise. I have a Pixel 4 XL and it gets me by but any extra load that day you'll definitely need a recharge.

I'm going to prepare for the downvotes from the fanboys, but get a Samsung.
Samsung definitely has this, but honestly sometimes Samsung over-saturates in terms of colours (and has done even since Galaxy Note 3 days.)

7 months ago. That being said, google does not seem to give a shit about recording video and audio quality. Despite what people will say, a galaxy s20 and a pixel 4 xl will be very similar straight out of the box. Looks like you're using new Reddit on an old browser. Slightly worse than my previous 11 pro max. You liked your S20 so you should have kept it lol. Apparently people aren’t happy with it judging by the downvotes on the topic lol. Samsung portraits always seem soft in the face and I don't know why. The cheapest s20 is $1000 and the ultra is $1400. But the pictures just looked like water color paintings in anything less than perfect lighting.
Otherwise the 4xl for $600 straight from Google is amazing.

I'm still waiting for the ATCT update which should improve the latter, but overall I really like the camera(s).

I had the S20+ for a week or two and decided to keep my P4XL because of several reasons.
With such a price difference though, you'd expect that to be the case. Which one is better both software wise and hardware wise. We're about to help you find the phone that suits you best. Do a search on this sub on that term and also the term "RMA" and see for yourself. Omg how I wish I had Pixel at times when I want to capture moving stuff or portraits, I mean Samsung’s not bad but when you start looking at your friends pictures you get jealous quickly. It's very apparent when you compare it to other phones' night modes (Pixel, Hiawei, iPhone). Between more vivid shots and a deeper photographic toolbox, it's fair to say the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has a better camera than the Google Pixel 4. Pixels try to follow the "just works" approach and lean more on software AI vs boosted hardware. Pixel fans not happy I guess. You get amazing specs, a 90Hz display which is still great compared to the 120hz on the s20 series, better camera, more updates with stock android and with some tweaks, just as good battery. Want the closest video camera you can get to an iphone?
However, I've heard Pixel 3aXL has amazing battery life. Posted by. Google's build quality and quality control are both terrible and the phones feel cheap. The cheapest s20 is $1000 and the ultra is $1400. I'm no longer into phone hardware after going pixel. With such a price difference though, you'd expect that to be the case. Here's a recent one, there's another just below this thread on the front page, too. I say that as a former Pixel, Samsung and iPhone owner.
