“The fact that there are layers” can, indeed, be inherently interesting, and the themes of fate, and goodness, and death, and sainthood, and martyrdom can be worthwhile, but I felt like I needed to be well-versed in the histories of Rome and the Christian faith in order to find the meaning that is as big as these themes are within this work.
