Now I found my future tent, Thanks to all of you for the great info!
And I am not going to praise all the goodness but the minors, as the Soulo has those too. I used to have an Akto and a Laser Comp and I did get fed up with the fabric-on-the-face thing and the flapping. I don’t use the soulo much due to the condensation. Die Mutter aller Fragen. Lots of condensation, even on my groundsheet (part of the innertent). .seo-tag-cloud em em em em em em a {color: #ff0;}
Surely, esoskeletal tents are less steady than inner-first pitch. enable_page_level_ads: true I use an add on small tarp to creat a good porch cover which works really well for cooking and keeping rain off the door. It's fine for normal 'winter' conditions. Ta. Being an artist who's chasing the simple life, I keep embroidering in the abundance nature offers me.
I have a Soulo too. And I mean extreme.
Update November 2017: I have fixed a few tiny pin needle holes but also bigger ones. I think you left out how it goes up with it pegged and the poles and guidelines in place before you raise the flysheet which makes its the best design I've come across for putting up and taking down in strong wind! Maybe they had early UV damage failure. The tent is so small, and, I guess, there’s no air circulation possible.
The SL3 may be as good as Bananafeet says it is, but if you have wind, hard but powdery snow like we have at the moment and darkness, putting it up sounds to me like a nightmare.
Happy to stumble across this site as I am hoping to do some high level camping this winter in Scotland. I did not do that much research, apparently, I just thought the tent I choose was really strong enough. I thought a Black Label tent is for expeditions, such as Everest or something. Not really done any before and Im not sure how my Aktio would be in heavy snow, plus as you mention, the inner in the face issue does annoy me, a shame because I really like the tent. Your experience may vary! I'm interested in this discussion because I've used the Vaude Powerlizard (which is a fantastic three season tent, fairly high up above the snow line in the Highlands half a dozen times. ; hilleberg.com. Still I can get tjat tent up under 3 minutes way faster rhan the Staika. Wusstet du das rund 47 Million Deutschen jedes Jahr online einkaufen?
And as with most zippers, they wear out before the tent or clothes wear out!
The Akto doesn't she snow anything like as well as the Soulo. Yeah, the Laser Comp does have the flappy thing, which I find annoying. The good thing about Hilleberg is that the inner is *very* warm, allowing you to save weight on clothing/sleeping bag. Die Verwendung von Kerlon 1200 und 9 mm Featherlite-Gestänge reduziert das Gewicht des Hilleberg Zelt, ohne dabei an Widerstandsfähigkeit einzubüßen. TBH, if I was to use a very lightweight tent now in the winter, I'd be tempted to try the Hilleberg Enan, which is apparently 1.1kg, but has 9mm Hilleberg poles, and Hilleberg's tent fabric is ultra strong. Choose your site carefully and it's more than adequate. No, it’s really not.
Und das nicht ohne Grund.
Oh, there is a video of the Lizard too here: I know with the SL3 you can build up the wall *on the inside* of the fly, which is the best way of doing it. Wusstet du das rund 47 Million Deutschen jedes Jahr online einkaufen? I do tend to disagree about self-standing.
Its not been used up high yet like it was intended for. The photo below clearly shows wear.

Ich bin damit erst seit ein paar Wochen in Patagonien unterwegs, aber ich bin bisher restlos begeistert! I must say their help from such a distance is great. I lived in Pakistan, went over 15 times to India and when I stopped cycling the world, that was after 50.000 kilometer through 45 countries, I met Geo. And mine broke in the Atacama, where sand and US are harsh. ANyway, long blather to say: how steady in wind was the Soulo in your experience?
I use a Soulo for winter camping in Scandinavia, I agree with MTs original post from all those years ago that the porch is on the small side for a winter tent, just over half of it is taken up by my pulk leaving little room to melt snow in a storm, on still nights I cook outside. Rain will not make me wet (condensation does) and my other tents were not so waterproof either.
Thicker less stringy ones would help with that; would add some small amount of weight though!

Welcome Steve. .seo-tag-cloud li {display: inline;} The porch size and door thing probably wouldn’t annoy me so much if it was lighter, because I generally expect some compromise, but combine them with the weight and we come to the crux of the problem: I can’t be bothered lugging it when I can get similar stability, space and fewer niggles for half the weight. Denn hier sind die Preise sehr oft viel günstiger als bei dem Geschäft um die Ecke.
What are your thought about the MSR Access 1 in comparison to the Soulo? The opening still exist between the point where 3 zippers come together.

In low level wild camping and long distance walking I use a tarp and bivy, but I am looking for something for more exposed locations.
Self made. The Akto was ubiquitous for quite some time, although that’s been eclipsed by the Laser Comp to some degree, there are still lots of Akto users out there. The Allak 3 comes in heavier at 7 pounds 1 ounce but otherwise features a nearly identical construction including the same impressive Kerlon 1200 fabric, a high bathtub-style floor, and two doors and two vestibules. For sure I won’t buy a new Hilleberg when in need for a new tent! Anyway, I'd be interesting to hear your suggestion for a 1,1kg winter tent that is as good as the Soulo. But I think too, any Hilleberg is good, or that’s what I assume.
Food for thought! I always replace guy lines on all my tents and find that making them longer makes a tremendous difference to stability. It's all about what you're comfortable with and making the call on the day about where to pitch. A Hilleberg is a strong 4-season tent, no matter which one you chose. I have a few holes too, but only because of an ant attack! Note: I was advised by Hilleberg team to rather have bought the Black Label tent-line instead, as they are better suited for a trip like the one I am experiencing.
